Insecs Monitum Strengthens Its Connected Fire Alarm Platform with Muuun

Insec Ventures’ portfolio company Monitum has taken an important step in its evolution from white-label safety platform provider to integrated product and technology owner.

In 2023, Monitum acquired the IP and core assets behind the hardware from Eldes, the Lithuanian technology company that originally supplied the device used in Monitum’s Smart smoke alarm service. The acquisition gave Monitum greater control over the connected fire alarm product now known as Muuun — a connected NB-IoT smoke and CO alarm designed for monitored home protection.

For Insec, the move represents exactly the type of strategic development the group looks for across its companies: moving closer to the customer, owning more of the value chain, and building scalable businesses around recurring safety services.

From white-label service to product ownership

Monitum has long offered a white-label Smart smoke alarm solution to partners in the security and insurance sectors. Partners such as Tryggsam buy the complete service from Monitum, including the connected hardware, alarm center functionality, SMS alerts, operational systems and recurring monitoring infrastructure.

The business model is simple and scalable: partners pay for the hardware once and then pay a recurring monthly fee for the connected safety service around it.

Historically, the hardware was supplied by Eldes. By acquiring the IP and core assets behind the hardware in 2023, Monitum moved from relying on an external product supplier to owning a much larger part of the platform itself.

Today, Muuun is not just a device. It is part of a wider connected safety ecosystem that includes hardware, cloud infrastructure, alarm center integration, SMS notifications, API connectivity and guard response workflows.

A connected NB-IoT smoke and CO alarm for monitored home safety

Muuun is a connected NB-IoT smoke and CO alarm built for households, security companies, insurance providers and white-label partners that want to offer professional fire protection without requiring a full traditional home alarm system.

The device is wireless, battery-powered and designed for multi-year operation. It combines detection and monitoring features including:

Smoke detection
Carbon monoxide detection
Humidity monitoring
Temperature monitoring
SMS alerts
Alarm center connection
API integration
Guard response support

This makes the product suitable not only for fire detection, but also for broader home damage prevention and monitored safety services.

Stronger control of the value chain

For Monitum, owning the product assets has created several strategic advantages.

The company can now influence the product roadmap directly, develop new features faster, improve support for partners and reduce dependency on external hardware suppliers. This has already resulted in a new product version with expanded sensor capabilities, including CO, humidity and temperature monitoring.

Monitum has also established Monitum UAB in Lithuania, a wholly owned subsidiary with five employees. The Lithuanian team includes former Eldes employees and supports the Baltic market, combining product knowledge, technical competence and local commercial experience.

Production remains with a manufacturing partner connected to the original Eldes ecosystem, allowing Monitum to maintain continuity while building stronger ownership around the technology, service platform and customer offering.

Proven traction across five European markets

More than 100,000 Muuun-related units have been produced and sold to date.

The solution is currently distributed across Sweden, Norway, Germany, Estonia and Finland, proving its relevance across several European markets and partner models.

In Sweden, the solution has been deployed at scale through Tryggsam, one of Insec’ core consumer safety businesses.

In Estonia, the product helped G4S Estonia grow its customer base by 30% and capture 7% market share in three years — an example of how connected fire alarm services can create meaningful growth for established security providers.

A platform for recurring safety revenue

The Muuun model reflects a broader shift in the security and insurance markets. Consumers want simple, affordable and connected protection. Partners want scalable services that create recurring revenue. Traditional alarm systems can be too expensive or too complex for many households.

Muuun bridges that gap.

By combining connected hardware with alarm center services, SMS communication, API integration and white-label delivery, Monitum enables partners to launch monitored fire and home safety services under their own brands.

For Insec, this is a clear example of the group’s philosophy: backing companies that turn safety infrastructure into scalable, recurring and technology-enabled services.

Building the next generation of monitored home safety

With Monitum now owning the Muuun product and platform, the company is better positioned to develop the next generation of connected fire and home safety solutions for Europe.

The acquisition of the IP and core hardware assets from Eldes was not only a product transaction. It was a strategic step toward deeper vertical integration, stronger partner value and greater control over one of the most important parts of the connected safety stack.

As demand grows for smarter, simpler and more accessible monitored home protection, Insec Ventures sees Monitum and Muuun as an important part of the future of European safety services.
